Group therapySharing experiences to feel understood and discover new perspectives.
Sometimes, it can be difficult to express how we feel, even to the people we trust the most. Although they may want to help us, it can be hard for them to fully understand our experience if they have not been through a similar situation. This may lead us to keep our worries to ourselves or struggle to find the right words to explain what we are going through.
When It Is Difficult to Express Our Emotions
Talking about our concerns can help us organise our thoughts and better understand our emotions. However, the fear of not being understood, feeling judged or worrying others can make communication more difficult.
Sharing Experiences with People Who Understand Us
Connecting with people who are going through similar situations can help us feel understood and less alone in our struggles. In small groups, sharing experiences in an environment of respect and trust can make it easier to express things that we may find difficult to put into words in other settings.
Listening to how others experience and cope with similar situations can also introduce us to different perspectives, encourage us to question some of our own interpretations and help us consider new ways of managing what we are going through.
Finding Support Through Shared Experiences
Everyone experiences their circumstances differently, but recognising shared experiences can help us face difficulties with a greater sense of understanding and support. It is not about finding the same solutions for everyone, but about having a space where we can listen, reflect and discover that other people are also going through challenging situations.
